About Us

Grasshoppers is a charity and committee run pre-school. It first opened in a church hall in 1985 and moved to it’s new premises in September 2007 after extensive fund raising.

The pre-school operates from the Old School House in the grounds of Castle Donington Community College. Here we have a large very secure private play area to the rear of the property.

Our aim within the Pre-School is to ensure the children are ready for mainstream school.

Our staff, follow the key areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The structured programme of activities is rich and varied including music, science experiments, creative play, gardening and more. Your child’s day is full with learning experiences.

The type of teaching is enormously varied. At Grasshopper Pre-School, we combine both adult led and child initiated activities to encourage independent learning and motivate children to link together the areas of development. The children in Pre-School will also have access to the garden through free play.

We also help parents continue learning at home through contact with your nominated key person and an updated learning journal.

Working with Parents

Grasshoppers realise that choosing the right Pre-School is one of the most important and difficult decisions you will ever have to make.

We actively work in partnership with parents and guardians to ensure healthy, happy children who are ready for mainstream school and hold regular Parents Evenings to keep you up to date with your child’s progress.
